Meet Khara Kapas, an Indian Cotton Clothing Brand

Founded by Shilpi Yadav, Khara Kapas began with a simple idea: to bring original artwork into everyday clothing. The name combines two Hindi words, khara, meaning pure or true, and kapas, meaning cotton.

As the founder and Creative Director, Shilpi paints the original watercolours that inspire the brand's prints. Her artistic vision, combined with Indian fabrics and skilled craftsmanship, gives Khara Kapas its distinctive character, creating clothing that brings together original prints, thoughtful details, and contemporary silhouettes.

From Watercolor to Original Print Clothing

The painting comes first

Work begins in our Gurgaon studio with paper, brushes and whatever is blooming nearby. Shilpi paints a cut branch or a garden flower, sometimes from memory, never from a photograph. One painting can take weeks, and many never leave the studio.

The print stays true

The paintings that pass are signed and dated. The print room then reproduces them as they are, with soft edges and pooled pigment left in. The watercolor stays the artwork on paper. The fabric carries its printed translation.

Color follows the garden

We do not release on a fixed fashion calendar. Collections arrive when the paintings do, shaped by what was in bloom while Shilpi worked. That is why the palettes feel like seasons you recognize: clay and sand tones in one collection, cornflower blue in another.

The fabrics we work with

Our prints travel onto mul, khadi and cotton gauze, and some styles use cotton poplin or Oxford cotton. Cotton is the core of the range, though a number of pieces use silk, linen or other materials. Each product page is the place to confirm the exact fabric.

One artisan, one garment

A single artisan shapes each piece rather than passing it along a line. It is slower work, and it is what makes this handcrafted Indian clothing instead of simply clothing made in India.
